Summary

Pupils in compulsory school are entitled to free school meals that are nutritious. Chapter 1, Section 10 requires the best interests of the child to be a starting point in all education.

Legal significance

The Act specifies nutritional quality but does not on its face specify which diets must be offered.

Relevance to the right to vegan food

A vegan meal that is nutritionally adequate satisfies the statutory standard; whether the school must provide one is answered by reading the Act together with the Convention and the Discrimination Act.

Current legal status

In force.
